Stored Ammonia For Energy (SAFE) receives support from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC, UK) to develop a new concept capable of using ammonia-hydrogen blends. The project seeks to create new gas turbine combustion systems capable of efficiently burning these blends. In addition, the gases will be employed to increase the overall efficiency of the unit, delivering a unique, high efficient power cycle. The project, worth £1.9 M (appr. $2.5 M) will ensure that fundamental concepts, applied science and novel developments are integrated for the creation of the first demonstrator of its kind. Works will be conducted in collaboration with Imperial College London and University College London, having support from Siemens Turbomachinery, CoolDynamics, National Instruments and the Welsh Government.
SAFE PILOT - Ammonia Gas Turbines (AGTs). From fundamental studies to the implementation of a fully operational gas turbine, the program will be first of its kind worldwide.
