Developments 2020

Updated: Feb 14, 2021

After a difficult year, SAFE has suffered considerable delays as a consequence of the lockdown across Europe. However, researchers and newly appointed PhD students have started catching up with their continuous motivation, and now SAFE is producing impactful results for the study of ammonia-based blends in combustion systems. Recent studies have taken advantage of novel reaction mechanisms, which in conjunction with new experimental studies and development of a new ammonia burner, denote the impact of hydrogen and methane with different ammonia concentrations at powers ranging from 5 to 20 kW. These works have enabled the publication of 3 journal papers, 2 conference posters, the initial commissioning of a micro-GT, one patent filling, and the preparation of 3 new journal papers for submission during the first quarter of 2021. Further, novel studies have been agreed with our partners at UCL for fundamental combustion characterization, whilst new analyses will be carried out in collaboration with our industrial partner HIETA for manufacturing of our new burner. It seems that 2021 will be a difficult year, yet a very productive period for SAFE.

2020, a year in which the great efforts of our team delivered important results, even under the current global Pandemia. Exciting times ahead for 2021.
